VAUGHN BODĒ SKETCHBOOK

Legendary cartoonist VAUGHN BODĒ is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He created a unique visual style and approach to comics that has inspired generations, and his influence can be seen everywhere from street art, to animation, to fine art galleries. Needless to say, Bodē’s work has had a long-lasting, global impact on the art world. This continued success can be attributed in no small part to Vaughn’s son, MARK BODĒ, who has been carrying on his father’s tradition for decades, creating comics, murals, and tattoos in the classic Bodē style.

"As children, reality is as vast as the universe itself, only to be narrowed down by experiences, acquaintances, friendships, and family.

"We edit our imaginations as we get older.

"I was brainwashed in a good way, in an unusual way, as my father Vaughn read the comics he was working on to me as bedtime stories. Claiming that Cheech Wizard and the likes of Dr. Electric were real. He explained he was merely documenting what he had seen and experienced in the days before. I was just learning to read, and on his drawing board I saw “S-U-N-P-O-T is Dead?” So deeply affected I was, I remember bursting into tears. It was my first exposure to the reality of death. Dad simply stated, “It was time, son. Sunpot, Dr. Electric, and Belinda Bump all had to die eventually, so they did.”

"To have a chance to carry on with SUNPOT in my own way 50 years later was akin to sitting on my father’s lap again, laughing and playing and looking forward to what happens next."
