More About "Callus":

With Callus, my guiding aim was to create an emotional, human narrative that explores the darker side of belief. In designing the world of the film, I focused on a modern-yet-isolated community regressing to the pagan ideals of their ancient ancestors - all in a desperate attempt to answer the enduring hardships that threaten their dwindling numbers. This regression of human spirit and morality was particularly compelling to explore, but at its core, the story always centred on a very real human tragedy - one we have witnessed throughout history and continue to see today - when people strive to appease what they believe is being asked of them by an invisible, unquantifiable deity.

I'm a sucker for a good creature feature - or any genre narrative that pits simple folk against an otherworldly, nigh-unimaginable force. In my recent work, I’ve been especially fascinated by approaching the more fantastical elements of Irish and Celtic mythology through a Lovecraftian lens. Using key figures from Irish folklore, such as the Sun God Lugh, I crafted Callus as a fable resting on a bed of deep lore, just waiting to be expanded upon in the future. We've had Callus: The Short Film, yes, but what about Callus: The Feature Film?
