The winter holiday season is upon us, (and probably your family gathering too!) So, what better way to celebrate than with some HEAVY METAL Holiday-themed covers?
Starting right off the bat, December 1977's edition of HEAVY METAL mag featured a cover illustrated by Jean Sole. Originally, this cover was used as an illustration on the front of METAL HURLANT issue #12, which itself had been published in December 1976.

Following after that, the December 1979 issue of HEAVY METAL featured a cover painted by Richard Cohen and Jon Townley.

Other Christmas-y covers would occasionally appear, although not as often.
We have painter Olivia De Berardinis's 1985 painting of a female Santa Claus gracing the cover of Winter 1988's issue of our magazine:

However, after the Winter 1988 issue, we don't get anymore holiday-themed covers until nearly 20 years later!
January 2007's edition of HEAVY METAL magazine features artwork by Claudio Aboy. Depicted on the cover by Aboy, we are treated to another Santa-outfitted woman. This time, our Santa lady is leaning up against a super-awesome vehicle that looks straight out of a sci-fi story! Of course, some wrapped Christmas gifts are also there - depicted on the bottom left side.

HEAVY METAL Issue #297 is a Winter-themed edition, which of course lends itself to having winter-and-holiday-themed covers. This issue has 3 unique cover variants: Cover A,by Brandi Milne, is titled "Once Upon A Quiet Kingdom". Cover B, by Jacques Parnel, is titled "Père Noël Extraterrestre";That particular piece originally was used by SyFy Channel on a promotional postcard of theirs. Cover C, titled "Krampus", was done by Dwayne Harris.
So, what do you think? What are your favorites from this selection of covers? Should HEAVY METAL do more Holiday-themed covers or issues?
