Hoax Hunters, the comic book series, recently found a new home with Heavy Metal. Next stop: Hollywood.
The Hollywood Reporter has just announced that a Hoax Hunters movie is in the works, with Craig Titley signed on to pen the script. Titley has written for TV series Agents of SHIELD, The Cape, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and his film writing credits include Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010), Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) and Scooby Doo (2002).
Don Murphy, a veteran with expertise in action films and movies adapted from comic books, is attached as a Hoax Hunters producer. He’s been a producer on all the Transformers movies, Real Steel (2011), Shoot ‘Em Up (2007) and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) and From Hell (2001). Heavy Metal’s co-CEOs David Boxenbaum and Jeff Krelitz are also on board as producers.

Created by Michael Moreci and Steve Seeley, Hoax Hunters has always been lauded for its ingenious concept: a team of paranormal investigators who stage a fake reality show that’s about “debunking” ghost stories and urban legends. The TV show presents the mysterious phenomena as fake, while behind the scenes the Hoax Hunters are actually battling the demons or mystical beings that really do exist. Screenwriter Titley looks to be a good fit with the material, telling THR, “I’ve never met a a conspiracy that I didn’t love. … They force people to think outside the box, and are a way to rewire reality.”
