Davi Go is some kind of ninja with a Prismacolor pencil, and you just have to thank the internet and social media for giving him a platform. We would never have known about Davi Go, nor would we be able to bring you this art, if not for his @constant.risk.of.fire instagram account, which features new pencil masterpieces daily. If you’re on portfolio sites, look up Davi Go on Artstation and Davi Go on DeviantArt.
We’re all for technology, and computers have enabled artistic achievements we might never have seen, but when we see some stylish, flawless execution like this that was clearly made by hand — you can’t do texture and shading like this in Photoshop (we don’t think you can, anyway) — it kicks us in the feels. These drawings are done with prismacolor pencil on card stock, and in addition to social media attention, Davi has also begun to pick up some publishing credits — Bogoss Book, Hardcover, and Skybound’s Entertainment’s Excellence.
Influences? “Adam Hughes, Olivier Coipel, Jeff Dekal, Travis Charest, Faraz Shanyar, Norman Rockwell, many, many, many more,” Davi says.
As much as we’d like to see a full-fledged comic (or at least some variant covers) in this style, Davi’s not sure that will happen, and is looking to become “more of a brand than an artist.” Well, this is a good start.
