Joe Badon Depicts Taarna From The Heavy Metal Movie!

Joe Badon Heavy Metal Taarna Art

Illustrator and animator Joe Badon is the latest intrepid artist to try his hand at rendering Taarna the Taarakian and her trusty pteranodon-like steed. The character dates from the 1981 Heavy Metal movie (and was inspired by Moebius’ pteranodon-riding protagonist) and over the years has become a mascot for Heavy Metal, finally getting her own comic book series in recent years.

Joe creates prints of cool movies and TV shows, as well as prints of neo-retro pinups and collage art. To see the prints he’s selling, visit his Etsy shop; he’d probably also like you to check out the Indiegogo campaign for his film Sister Tempest, which is in post-production. Here are a few examples of Joe’s work:

And here’s a t-shirt using his design, from the Heavy Metal Threadless shop. We’ve got hoodies and blankets as well:

Great stuff! Taarna is our iconic heroine and we’re always eager to see new artists’ spin on her.
