At the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, Robert Eggers won the Directing Award. That’s good for Robert Eggers, but even better considering the film: The Witch, a period horror film set in New England in 1630 — 60 years prior to the infamous witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts. Horror films aren’t usually film-festival darlings, but this one wowed ’em at Sundance and will next screen at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
The Witch is expected to get a theatrical release in early 2016. Here’s the trailer:
