That Time the Grateful Dead Gave Playboy After Dark’s Crew LSD

In a recent interview with Conan O’Brien, Bill Kreutzmann, longtime Grateful Dead drummer, reminisced about the time he and his bandmates performed on the Hugh Hefner-hosted talk show Playboy After Dark. According to Kreutzmann, an associate of the band, Owsley “Bear” Stanley, and an LSD cook, put acid in the coffee the show’s crew was drinking:

Kreutzmann clearly says 1967. But Kreutzmann’s wrong. Playboy After Dark didn’t debut until 1969. Here’s a clip of the Dead performing on the show in that year. Does the camerawork seem off to you?
