Frank Herbert’s Dune turns 50 this year, a remarkable occasion for a book that many science fictions fans consider a masterpiece. Arthur C. Clarke wrote that “Dune seems to me unique among novels in the depth of characterization and the extraordinary detail of the world it creates. I know nothing comparable to it except The Lord of the Rings”

Folio Society has published a whopper of a Dune-lover’s edition, with its own slipcase and an introduction by critic Michael Dirda. But what’s really jaw-dropping are the painted illustrations by Sam Weber. Here are a bunch of them from the Dune page at Folio Society and Weber’s own site.

    Has it been released yet?

  2. Great work keeping this masterpiece available to the uninitiated . And I am jealous of anyone reading Dune for the first time and be able to do so out of such a beautiful book. I can see a thousand years hence a religion based on a long forgotten book but the idea once born never dies.

  3. You are doing a worthy deed keep it going.

  5. Doug Eldridge says:

Exquisite drawings. I will be buying it Friday to go along with my illustrated Dune.
