Some 27 years after its release, They Live is a movie that still packs an intellectual wallop. For artist Hal Hefner the idea of aliens among us urging us to CONSUME seems more relevant than ever. The excesses of the ’80s seem quaint compared to today’s bizarre reality. Rowdy Roddy Piper, the film’s star, famously said They Live was a documentary.
On Friday, news broke of Piper’s death at the age of 61. Hefner was inspired to whip up a tribute image to his hero, and to follow it up with a tribute clip. “In this video, Piper’s character NADA, takes out pop culture’s most deserving icons in their true alien form,” Hefner writes.
