Pour One Out for Naomi Von Kreeps on Star Wars Day

Naomi Von Kreeps

You’re no use to Boba Fett sober.

It’s May the Fourth, Star Wars day of course, but a bittersweet one if you’re one of the many fans of Naomi Von Kreeps. For this is her last Star Wars Day as the Naomi von Kreeps you know and love.

Naomi Von Kreeps is retiring.

Naomi Von Kreeps

Naomi (Facebook | Twitter | Official Site) is most famous for her Star Wars fandom, which she shows by putting on big-ass helmets and posing for pictures. Sometimes she does full costumes, other times it’s just a helmet and a t-shirt or slinky dress—this has something to do with the lack of female characters in Star Wars. She has an Empire/Sith-only policy, so Leia (whether Slave or vanilla flavored) isn’t gonna happen. At 5’4″ she’s more than a little short for a Stormtrooper, and a bit too curvy for standard-issue armor. So she improvises. The result is: Sexy Vader, Sexy Boba Fett, Sexy Royal Imperial Guard, Sexy Tie Pilot… you get the idea.

Naomi has just completed one last costume, and it’s not even Star Wars: a Crusader from Diablo III. She’ll wear it at her hometown Ottawa Comic Con this weekend. Then she’ll be done.

Why are you retiring? Don’t you think you’ll miss it?
Of course I’m going to miss it. I ALREADY MISS IT and I’m still not completely done with my Crusader. *sob*. I’m retiring because it’s just time for me to quit. Cosplaying has always just been a hobby for me, but it became much much more than that. Between crafting, going to cons, being invited to cons, social media, and everything else that goes along with becoming somewhat ‘cos-famous’, my full time career as well as my crazy workout schedule, I just can’t find the time to do it all anymore :(

Naomi Von Kreeps

You have kept your star wars cosplay strictly Empire, why’s that?
BECAUSE YOU DON’T KNOW THE POWER OF THE DARK SIDE! Haha. As a kid I was always fascinated by the dark side, and that fascination just continued on into adulthood.

In fact “cosplay” might not even be the right word — rarely (if ever) do you try to faithfully replicate a costume.
Oh, my Star Wars costumes are definitely NOT cosplay, nor have I ever considered them as such. They are just silly costumes I put together as my way of paying homage to Star Wars. My other true cosplays are as accurate as I could make them to whatever character I was portraying, but my Star Wars costumes are just that. Silly, fun costumes.

What’s your favorite Star Wars costume you’ve ever done?
I think the one of me wearing a Stormtrooper helmet in a kiddy pool. Although that helmet is the worst possible helmet I could have worn (I have a much more accurate one now), I just like the lightheartedness of the pictures. It’s just so random. Why is a Stormtrooper in a kiddie pool?

Tell us about your “last” ever cosplay, the Crusader. Is there a reason you picked this one for your grand finale? Where will you be wearing it?
My last cosplay is the Crusader from Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. I was initially going to make a Demon Hunter (that’s my favorite class), but eventually switched to creating a Crusader cosplay because I absolutely love the fact they have a shield and a flail, and the default armor is pretty badass looking. Plus they are a super fun class to play!
