How badass is the latest trailer—posted today—for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets?:
Valerian is directed by Luc Besson, and based on the French comic-book adventures of Valerian and Laureline. The first Valerian story appeared in Pilote magazine in 1967, and the duo’s “spatio-temporal” adventures, written by Pierre Christin and illustrated by Jean-Claude Mézières, continued to be published up through 2010. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets stars Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) and Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad) in the leading roles. The supporting cast has some major star power in the form of John Goodman, Ethan Hawke, Clive Owen, Rutger Hauer and Rihanna.
It’s hard not to look at this trailer without comparing it to Besson’s The Fifth Element, the stylish 1997 sci-fi classic starring Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich. The movies will be compared. It’s gonna happen. So for comparison’s sake, here’s the 1997 trailer (remastered for HD by a helpful fan):
