Here’s a tip on yet another cool Heavy Metal project coming down the pike: Court of the Dead, a new comic book series we’re creating in partnership with Sideshow Collectibles, who are introducing a line of high-end statues of the same name.
The December issue of Heavy Metal (that’s #278) will contain Court of the Dead issue #0, which will set up the standalone series’ debut in 2016. Heavy Metal #278 will also get a special Court of the Dead cover, which looks something like this:
The Court of the Dead collaboration was announced yesterday at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo, where Heavy Metal CEO Jeff Krelitz moderated a panel that featured Sideshow’s Chief Creative Officer Tom Gilliland as well as Grant Morrison, who will take over as Editor in Chief of Heavy Metal starting with the April issue.
“Court of the Dead was the first property I’ve seen since The Lord of the Rings that had my mind racing about the world, the characters and the lore,” Krelitz says. “It is a masterwork and Heavy Metal is proud to help launch Sideshow’s beautiful and ambitious epic.”
Here’s how Sideshow Collectibles describes Court of the Dead:
The Court of the Dead is a dark fantasy epic in which Death, Lord of the Underworld, is mankind’s only hope for deliverance from a never-ending war between Heaven and Hell. Death crafted the ghastly and glorious Court of the Dead to aide him in his crusade against the celestials, but the Court is divided into three conflicting factions: Bone, Flesh and Spirit. Will these factions destroy humanity’s only hope to stop the celestial war machine, or can the Underworld unite to Rise, Conquer and Rule?
