On Monday, the outrage machine that we call news reported on Fred Hill, a single father in Philadelphia who doesn’t like the Slave Leia Star Wars figure they’re selling at his local Target.

“That’s pretty inappropriate,” he said. “I got two daughters I don’t need seeing that crap.”

The toy features a scantily clad version of Princess Leia complete with a chain around her neck. The toy even had dad blushing.

“They’re like ‘dad why does this doll have a chain around its neck?’. I don’t have any answers. I was just blown away looking at it,” Hill said.

So the debate is on. Is Slave Leia inappropriate for kids? Intelligent discussion over at The Mary Sue centers not on whether Slave Leia is appropriate (it’s in the freakin movie, people) but why Slave Leia has been the only Leia figure available until recently.

  1. Remember, she used that chain to murder her oppressor. That's once princess you don't mess with.
