HOW
DID WE GET HERE?
Once upon
a time, long ago, in the not too distant future it all came crashing
down - but not the way anyone expected.
Prophets
since the dawn of the human have predicted the great extinction by our
own hand, but later on some thought we'd go the way they believed the
Dinosaur went - in a giant meteor created "winter" that wouldn't end.
The latter
were close, but we're currently working on the first part....
For thousands
of years, at the height of our greatest abilities we built, and we built,
and we built, until it seemed most of the highest peaks, and lowest
valleys, of North America were the multiple tops of one giant Metropolis,
that seemed to be spreading around the globe.
The
world had indeed grown smaller, as it seemed every square inch of "Land"
was occupied, people searching for room to stretch and breathe, moved
to a new kind of real estate...that which existed in cyberspace...
Whole new
worlds were created on the internet, full of fantastic adventures, and
lots of wide open spaces. Anyone could be anyone they wanted to be,
by literally reconstructing themselves cell by cell in these new worlds,
through an exciting new micro digital robot technology called "NANOBOTS"...
and only to be traced back and identified by the area code from which
they dialed in from.
So in love
with these "new frontiers" were all the people, and so out of touch
had they become, most never even knew "IT" was coming until it was too
late...and those who did, thought it was just another game...
You see
from out of the deepest reaches of the universe they came, and travelling
at over a billion miles an hour...three rocks roughly the size of our
moon, grazed our little planet, and for the moment, seemed to spare
our world...until the aftershocks hit.
The simplest
explanation is that it basically caused the plates of the Earth to slip
sending the ice heavy North and South Poles to the area known as the
Equator, where the obvious
Happened
- they melted, adding another 20% to the 75% of water that already covered
most of us.
When all
was said and done, and things stabilized, what remained were Mountain
tops, Metropolis peaks, and a few desert-like plateaus... everything
else was underwater.
Humans,
like the roaches, survived, living both on top of, and under, what "real"
land was available, making the games of the past even more important,
as their fantasy lives became reality.
What once
was a way to "escape" the crowded real world, now became a "Cyber War".
A war which would decide who was the ultimate power, through control
of "real land" resulting from never ending "digital battles".
Although
it is believed, yet unconfirmed, that other "area codes" exist, the
main conflicts take place within a 1000 mile section of relocated "peaks"
thought to have once been a southern part of the Pacific Rim of North
America.
