It will take you further than fear!
Summer is coming to an end, but we can’t possibly let it slide by without talking about one of the best campfire stories out there, The Burning. Out at Camp Blackwood, a group of teenagers decide to play a prank on the camp’s caretaker, but it goes terribly wrong. What was supposed to be harmless, ends up setting the caretaker on fire and placing him in a hospital for years. Once he gets out, he has only one thing on his mind – revenge. Bearing huge garden shears, “Cropsy” stalks the island and begins to kill the campers one by one. While the plot may seem a little like Friday the 13th, the execution and special effects for The Burning put it near the top of our favorite slashers list. The murderous sprees from Cropsy (namely the brutal raft scene) were enough to put it on the infamous Video Nasties list and are enough for us to watch it every summer while we make these deadly dishes.
Killer Stuffed Burgers-
2 lbs ground beef
1 block cheddar cheese, sliced 1/4 inch thick
Lawry’s seasoning salt
Lettuce, tomato, pickle (optional)
Divide ground beef into 8 portions (6 if you like bigger burgers). Divide each portion in half, flatten, and top with cheese slices and bacon. Top with other half and form into a patty. Make a small indentation in the center, so the burgers don’t swell in the center. Season with Lawry’s.
Grill over high heat, about 5-6 minutes per side. Serve on hamburger buns with your preferred toppings.
Summer Camp S’Mores Dessert-
1 yellow or white cake mix
1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs
3 Tbsp sugar
4 Tbsp ground flax seeds
2 cups water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
Snickers or Peanut Chews, chopped
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl, whisk the flax seeds and 6 tablespoons of the water. Let sit a few minutes. In a mixing bowl, combine cake mix, graham crackers, sugar, flax seed mixture, the rest of the water, and vegetable oil. Mix with hand mixer for 2 minutes. Pour into a greased and floured 9×13 inch pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool for about 10 minutes before removing from pan. To serve, crumble cake into bowls, and top with chopped candy bars and toasted marshmallows. Not pictured, but also good, is caramel or chocolate sauce drizzled on top.
