These Huge Victorian Dolls Gave London the Creeps for a Week

What are you lookin’ at?

Last week, Londoners were treated to a weird, unsettling sight: A pair of human-sized Victorian-era dolls walking the streets and riding the subway. Often holding a doll of their own, or pushing a stroller, the bizarre couple brought to mind the Grady Twins from The Shining, or a none-too-cute John Tenniel illustration come to life.

The pair of sour-faced poppets were dreamed up by PR agency Taylor Herring to promote an attraction at an amusement park outside of the city — something described as the “world’s first psychological theme park ride created by [illusionist and mentalist] Derren Brown.”

Not, apparently, the happy kind of “psychological.”
