WHAT’S
ON MY BRAIN
|

Happy Valentines
Day everyone!!! Or at least it will be shortly, so I wanted to get it
out there and wish you the best one ever for you and yours, and if you
don’t have a yours, treat yourself to something special! Here’s
a picture of my Valentines sweetie, this was taken the night we first
met at the Golden Apple Comic Shop, on Melrose, in LA. We had our first
date on her Birthday, nine years ago this February 18th. I still feel
like a pretty lucky guy…

 I’m
going to run with w theme here, so bare with me…sorta. Speaking
of "Knights in shinning armor, and damsels in distress…again
with the "SORTA" thing going on, here’s a couple of nutty
buddies getting ready to do some "King and Queen" scenes for
the recently released DVD "Guns of El Chupacabra!" This my friends
is a crazy assed film if I ever saw one, and I love it. Produced by Donald
G. Jackson and Scott Shaw, it was directed in Donald G. Jackson’s
"ZEN" film making style, which basically means there is "No
Script." Don and Scott used to joke on set, "Yeah, we’ve
got a script, but we keep it in the trunk of Dons car until we’re
done with the film!" So basically they just make it up as they go
along, and edit it together later on. It sounds insane to a point, but
it was really quite cool on set, just rolling with what ever happened
or wanted to say. |
I’m
sure it will be nearly impossible to find, I think Julie found a few on
Ebay, but since Donald passed away a few months ago, I’m not sure
what the distribution system will be, as he used to sell them through
his web site. Anyway, here’s a shot of the box cover, in case you
want to try and track it down. |
|
Speaking
of "Weird Shit" here’s something I found when I was
moving around some of my comic collection the other day, it’s
a Simon Bisley "Swamp Thing" cover, from back in January of
2001. Take a good look at it, and you can see Simon in the background
hitting on Swampy’s daughter "Tefe" and me in the foreground
drinking a beer! I love it, he got all my "chins" in and everything!
Just a bit of funky trivia to stuff in a back corner of your brain there
folks.

The
final image this time around is a sneak peek from Julie’s upcoming
book, "Nightmare on Pin-up Street" that will hit the street
in April. Among the 230 pages of this hardcover beauty you’ll
find three huge new sections of all new photos of Julie, a huge section
of photos she took of all her girl/model/friends, snap shots, behind
the scenes photos, and a great section of new paintings by the top fantasy
artists working out there today. This one is by the extremely talented
Armando Huerta. Look for it in April, or buy the special edition from
us on the site, more details to come.

By
the way, if you like pin-up books like this, especially ones filled
with artwork, we’ve added about 25 "SQP" publications
to the Heavy Metal store, so you don’t have to run around the
different comic shops trying to fill in your collection! I was able
to buy up all the ones I was missing from Sal at San Diego this past
year, and that's when we got to talking about adding them to our site,
to help him reach more "like minds." Check’em
out.
Lastly,
I can’t remember if I mentioned that Simon Bisley and Alan Grant’s
"Shit the Dog" has made it back to our weekly updates again,
and to honor that event, this weeks special offer is the "Surf’s
Up!" shirt for five bucks off its original price! It you
haven’t seen it, it is basically an elephant balancing on a
ball, while spewing a huge river of shit, while a dog in a superhero
outfit surfs on it, and a bunch of other critters running all over
the place! Perfect to wear to your next family reunion!
Okay,
gotta run for this week, will catch ya in a week or so.
Best,
Kevin
