WHAT’S
ON MY BRAIN
Basically
I’m thinking, "What the fuck is on my BRAIN?" this week!
Man it has been a crazy one, complete with the full moon last night!
The first signal I get each month when the full moon arrives is my cat
doing "cart wheels" and "barking like a dog" around
the upstairs studio…it obviously seems to effect her. Then it
starts with the little pinch in my brain, and the craziest stuff going
on all around me, in a "When it rains, it pours!" kinda deal.
That pretty much sums up this week, which leads to my newest excuse
why this "What’s On?" segment is late.
Not to
digress, more in defense, just got off a two hour phone call with my
best buddy Paul Jenkins, (who writes some killer comics for Marvel and
DC) and he’s had the same kind of week! Every idiot you never
wanted to see again, you bump into in the street, and every great deal
you’ve been working on, that seems to have passed its expiration
date, suddenly comes back like a hurricane, and now looks to be a "GO!"
Weird, and all kinds of stuff you’ll get to hear about in the
coming weeks.

Speaking
of "deals," as you remember from last weeks "What’s
On?" I told you about going to Mad House animation studios in Japan
to put together a cool new animated "Heavy Metal / Mad House"
movie, and I hoped to be able to tell you more this week, but the contract
and such haven’t moved along far enough for me to "BLAB"
so instead I’ll give you a little tour of their "way Cool"
studio.
Picture
one is of the studio building in a the middle of Tokyo, they basically
use the top three floors, about 200 people on staff, and crank out killer
animation. I’ll hunt down a link for their studio project list
for next weeks post, so you can check them out more.
|
Image
two is of me and CEO & Executive Producer Shinichi Kobayashi. I’m
the one flexing, he’s the one looking away thinking, "I can’t
believe this American idiot is flexing in our board room!" |
Photo
three is of Me, Joe, Galen (our American producer), Kobayashi, Our
Japanese agents Rick and Yumiko, and the extremely talented Masao
Maruyama posing in front of the their latest animated movie poster
"Tokyo Godfathers." Maruyama has been part of just about
every mad House production from day one, and "Tokyo Godfathers"
has just opened in limited theaters here in the states, and will be
out on DVD later this year. Hunt it down, see it on the big screen
and buy it when it comes out! |
Picture four
is a shot down one of MANY "multi artist drawing stations" that
spread through out every corner of the building. It’s great to peek
at what they’re working on for a project, but what is even cooler
if to see all their own drawings around their desks, as well as the things
they collect for toys and books that cover every other inch. |
|
The
next picture is of one of their up and coming new directors Takeshi
Koike who directed the "World Record" story in the "Animatrix"
animation DVD. He’s holding one of his latest creations, but I’ll
wait until I get a better picture of it, and his approval, to tell you
more about it.
|
|
The last image is of one of their background artists, working on the
background scene for their new "Gun Slinger" animated series,
I hope gets to the states sometime soon! All in all, a great crew, great
working space, and I hope to tell you more about the project, as well
as make many more trips over there in the future.

So,
as in a bunch of the past weeks, my "What’s On?" is
late again, but KR did get all of this weeks updates to all the other
sections up much earlier in the week. Thanks KR, and if you guys haven’t
checked them out yet, please do.
Trying
to get back on top of the message boards, got up there last night,
and some asshole wrote some shit that pissed me off so much, I only
slammed him back, got through a few more, and had to do something
else. Will get back up there tonight, and tomorrow to get completely
caught up.
This
weeks special is pretty cool I think, Howie and I decided to let you
guys steal our limited edition portfolios for the next seven days.
We’ve got signed editions of "Royo" "Azpiri,"
"Simon Bisley:Fakk2," and "Chichoni" normally
$120 bucks worth of great artwork for $60 bucks if you buy all four!
Geez man, if I didn’t have them already, I’d buy them!
Also, could be a great Valentines Day gift…tell your girl friends,
wives, etc., to buy it for you! CLICK
HERE FOR MORE.
Okay,
got sixty billion, trillion, zillion more things to do today, so I’m
gonna run for now, and will catch you the end of next week.
Best,
Kevin
