WHAT’S
ON MY BRAIN
Well, I
almost made my Monday deadline for the next installment for "What’s
On?" Got a little side tracked from an after holiday visit from
my Dad, and his wife Patti for the last four days. Had a great time,
got to the LA and Getty Museums, as well as the Petersen Car Museum.
All great places in my backyard I never make time to get to unless I
have guests in town the force me off the computer and drawing board.
If you ever get to Los Angeles, I recommend you check them out.
It’s also been a hectic few weeks, getting ready for a trip to
Japan on the 18th. Joe Pearson and I have been invited over to work
on a project with Mad House Animation, a killer studio who’s made
amazing films like "Ninja Scroll," "Perfect Blue"
"Trigun" and two of the shorts on "Animatrix" to
name only a very few. We’ll be working out the rest of a story
we want to produce together (Heavy Metal and Mad House) and if it works
out well, I’ll tell you all about it when I get back.
Okay, so here we are in 2004, and it’s off and running. Personally
I got a great feeling it is going to be a wonderful year for everyone,
can’t say exactly why, but something feels right, so lets see
if my prediction is correct, and keep sending those notes to the message
boards to let me know what you’re up to. Speaking of which, I’ve
got a ton up there I have to get up and answer, so I won’t babble
on to much here, and get to them.

For this edition
of "What’s On?" I wanted to do something a pinch different,
and focus on one subject, my good friend Andy Sidaris. Heavy Metal put
out the hard cover "Bullets. Bombs, and Babes: The Films of Andy
Sidaris" late last year, a labor of love I’m extremely proud
of. Over the holiday’s, Julie and I popped in some of the new DVD
versions of his films and remembered all over again why we love them.
It also reminded me, Andy was the first guy to put me in front of the
camera in the film "Day of the Warrior." Picture one is of me
after I just finished my death scene as "Harry the Jeweler"
posing with scene partner Julie K Smith, and the world famous Gerald Okamura.
Man you’ve never seen someone sweat so much as I did that day. |
The
next picture is the man himself, showing some of the actresses what kind
of movies he’s looking for in the strip club scene also from "Day
of the Warrior." It’s hard to get people to believe that Andy
was one of the main directors of "ABC’s Wide World of Sports"
for 29 years, and has more "Emmy’s" than he has shelf
space for. Personally I think a whole lot of a guy that knows how to have
that kind of fun after busting his ass for the corporations for so many
years. |
Of the
15 films Andy has created with his beautiful producer wife, Arlene,
you’d be hard pressed to pick you’re favorite, from "Picasso
Trigger" to "Enemy Gold" or "Malibu Express"
to "Do or Die" you’ll have favorite bits from all
of them. One thing you’ll find in all of them are the "Babes!"
"Playmates," "Pets," and "Models" run
rampant, in or out of clothes, they are always lethal. Here’s
Shae Marks, and Julie Strain relaxing on set before their next scene
in image three. |
One of my
coolest memories was working as a stunt double for one of his Ninjas in
"Return to Savage Beach" the actor who played the role in the
states couldn’t make the trip to Hawaii for the shoot so I filled
in. Here we are on the beach in photo #4. |
Andy
also put me back in front of the camera, note sure why if you’ve
seen my scene in "Day of the Warrior" as "Harry the Cat"
in "Return to Savage Beach." Fun to do, even with all the
sweating from me that day also! Here’s Julie and I on set in picture
#5. |
|
Although "Return to Savage beach was the last film Andy got out
the door, he’s working hard on getting the next one, "Battle
Zone Hawaii" off the ground, and has been chatting up hot bodies
like Victoria Silvstedt (picture six) about possible rolls. For both
Andy and Victoria fans, lets hope they work out a deal!

If
you haven’t had the chance to catch any of Andy’s check
your TV Guide for listings, they run all the time, or you can check
your video store or Andy’s web site for the new DVD six pack,
six great films in a cool package. As for the "Bullets, Bombs,
and Babes" book, I’m sure all the hardcore fans have already
bought their copies, so we wanted to run a special one week promotion
to introduce the new fans to Andy’s work by offering the book
half off its $20.00 price tag.
Okay, I’m gonna scoot for now, I’ll try to get another "What’s
On? Off to you guys before Japan, but regardless they’ll be all
new channel updates for you. (Be sure to check out this weeks update,
silly assed stuff!)
Take care all!
